The flaking or peeling of paint normally occurs when there is a loss of adhesion between the paint and the surface it’s placed on. This loss of adhesion can be caused by several factors.
The reason for flaking or peeling paint is often an improperly prepared surface and moisture seeping through from the wall to the paint surface. This problem needs fixing as soon as possible as it can lead to complete failure of the paint..
Remove all flaking and peeling paint by wire brushing, sanding and scraper.
Fix the course of the adhesion failure. Before painting commence ensure that the surface is dry, clean, free from any contamination e.g. dust, crease, oils, waxes, algae and fungus or any loose particles. Ensure that the plaster is dry and in a sound condition before priming.
